How it works. When a patient with stroke symptoms arrives at the emergency department, a doctor examines the patient and initiates a stroke alert. Blood samples are drawn, a computed tomography (CT) scan is completed and—perhaps most importantly—the hospital activates the Telestroke hotline.

Research has shown that TeleICUs improve patient care by reducing complications , shortening length of stay in the ICU and saving lives . TeleICU can also help shorten overall hospital stays, cut the number of days patients spend on a ventilator and reduce the incidence of sepsis.

Can a stroke neurologist see CT?
The stroke neurologist can zoom in on the cardiac monitor to observe the patient's electrocardiographic results, heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturations. During the examination, the stroke neurologist also can simultaneously access the CT results.
