When will Bellingham Public Schools reopen?
This matches the Whatcom County Health Department’s recommendation that school districts prepare for remote learning when they reopen in September. We have been planning a staged, careful process for students to return to classes at their school.
What is a reconnect plan?
Our Reconnect Plan will keep students connected as much as possible to their neighborhood/enrolled schools. The advantage is if/when we go back to school in person, students will be connected with their classroom community.

Mixed responses from stakeholders, including our labor leaders, work teams, advisory committees, families and students and staff from the feedback we collected in June about readiness and willingness to be in person. The task of reopening schools is compounded with a significant number of high-risk staff in critical positions.

How to help students with emotional state?
Emphasize student role in safety and how to access support. Review safety procedures. This should include procedures and safeguards at school and at home. Help children identify at least one adult at school and in the community to whom they go if they feel threatened or at risk. Observe children’s emotional state.
Can children express their concerns verbally?

Just the other day, I was driving to work when I saw two girls waving pride flags on a bridge over Alabama St. I opened my window and waved and honked my horn in approval. The girl facing my direction waved back in excitement with a huge smile on her face.
WWU Eliminates Personal Vaccine Exemptions
I don't think there are any news articles, but students got an email an hour ago. Only medical and religious exemptions will be allowed now, similar to WSU's mandate.
Planned 'Coalition of Parents' event planned for our schoolboard meeting
I dont know what to do. These antimasker and antivaxers went to the Lynden schoolboard meeting last week. 100-150 people. They all got 5 minutes to speak and held the schoolboard up for 3 hours, until 10pm.
Brandywine Kitchen is open again!
After being closed due to arson, Brandywine Kitchen reopened this week for takeout! Happy to be able to grab brunch eats there again!
