PleX is AMAZING! And non-techie folks just don't appreciate how great it is

I just recently set up a Plex server at home. I had a bunch of movies on hard drive but I'd have to sort through it all manually to watch anything, and only on my PC anyway.

Plex on iOS is getting gradually more broken as time goes on

subtitles on downloaded media don’t turn on. This has been like this for months for the downloaded media library. It’s fine for the normal online library.

Watch out for new Notifications

I updated the Plex app on my phone (Android) today, and I was looking through the the settings for something regarding the new Downloads feature when I noticed there are new Notification preferences that were not there last time I looked.

Setup A Static IP Address

It is important to set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports remain forwarded even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

Accessing Your Arris Router

Log in to the Arris BGW210-700 router. To do this you need to use a web browser because the Arris BGW210-700 router uses what is called a web interface.

Create A Port Forward

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network.

DHCP

What worked for me was to leave DHCP enabled, Public Subnet off, and Cascaded Router off.

Firewall Filters

I wanted the UDM Pro to provide all of the firewall filtering, so I disabled the filters on the Firewall | Packet Filter tab. This is what it looked like when I was done:

IP Passthrough

The Firewall | IP Passthrough tab was, obviously, the most important page in this process. I needed to set the Allocation Mode to “Passthrough” and the Passthrough Mode to “DHCPS-fixed,” then select the Passthrough Fixed MAC Address from the list of devices.

Firewall Status

This is what the Firewall | Status tab looked like when everything was working:

Wi-Fi Configuration

Lastly, I turned off both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks on the Home Network | Wi-Fi tab. This isn’t necessary for IP Passthrough, but I no longer wanted devices connecting directly to the AT&T router at all, so I turned it off entirely.
