What kind of network connectivity to Brandeis systems or services can I expect when working remotely?

When accessing Brandeis systems such as Google Mail, Sage or Latte from on-campus, you are using the Brandeis network which has the necessary bandwidth to support simultaneous network traffic. However, when accessing Brandeis systems through a home internet provider (e.g., Verizon FiOS), your connectivity is limited to the bandwidth of your service provider.

Can I use my personal computing devices to conduct Brandeis work while working from home or another location?

Using a Brandeis-owned machine that has been configured to meet Brandeis security requirements is always the best alternative for conducting Brandeis work whether from on campus or other locations. If you do not have a Brandeis-issued machine, please follow the checklist above to ensure you're working under safe computing practices.

How do I enable or disable call forwarding for my Brandeis phone?

You can forward your Brandeis office phone to another number. It simply forwards all calls to your chosen number, whether that be a cell or landline. Calls will appear to be coming from "Brandeis University" or however you have our main number is entered into your cell phone.

Do I need to use VPN?

Brandeis systems and services such as Google Apps (Mail, Calendar, Drive), LATTE, Workday, Zoom, Box are accessible without the use of special software; these can be accessed using a web browser from anywhere.

Will a loaner laptop be provided if I don't have a personal machine?

At this time, ITS is not providing loaner laptops. All requests for a loaner laptop will be handled on a case-by-case basis and in coordination with an employees' manager. ITS does not loan other equipment such as monitors or printers.

How do I virtually meet with my colleagues?

You can connect to Zoom via web browser, telephone, or mobile device. You have the option of connecting to the virtual meeting room with audio and/or video, virtually "present" or share documents, record the meeting and more. What is ITS in Brandeis?

Information Technology Services (ITS) has the technical infrastructure needed to accommodate students accessing all operational systems such as LATTE, Sage, Zoom or Workday from off-campus. ITS staff are available to ensure continuity and stability of services during this period of high demand from the Brandeis community. ITS will closely monitor network infrastructure and is prepared to quickly respond to any unforeseen technical support needs.

Do I need to use a virtual private network (VPN) to access Brandeis systems from off-campus?

Brandeis systems and services such as Google Apps (Mail, Calendar, Drive), LATTE, Workday, Zoom, Box are accessible without the use of special software; these can be accessed using a web browser from anywhere. VPN (previously referred to as wormhole) is used to securely access network drives, files shares or using remote desktop. Learn more about using the VPN.

Will Zoom (web conferencing) work outside of the U.S.?

Yes, Zoom is accessible outside of the U.S. via phone or web browser (computer, tablet, smartphone). Please note that there are some restricted countries or regions where Zoom is inaccessible due to regulatory reasons. For more information, visit the Zoom website.

Can you set up a personal vanity URL?

Electronic resources can be accessed from off-campus by using any of the links to our e-resources on the Library website and when prompted, logging in with your Brandeis UNet account.

The licensing arrangements offered by providers of e-resources restrict remote access to current students (undergrad and graduate), faculty, and staff of Brandeis University.

What is the Eduroam network?

Eduroam is the official wireless network at Brandeis and thousands of other participating institutions across more than 100 countries. Sign in once with your UNet account to access WiFi wherever you are.

What is a UNET account?

A University Network (UNet) account provides access to core Brandeis services for all students, faculty, staff and alumni. Once you’ve completed the registration process, you can use your credentials to access many of the services outlined below.

How many characters are required for Brandeis password?

Password: Your password must be at least 10 characters and be a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and a symbol (e.g., a comma, hyphen, etc.) and must meet Brandeis password requirements (not based on a dictionary word, adjacent characters on the keyboard, or your name). Passwords expire on a yearly basis.

What does it mean when your username is taken?

If, during the registration process, you receive a message that the username you selected is taken or unavailable, it means that prior username cannot be released for use. Please select a different username.

How long is a passphrase?

Passphrase: A passphrase must be at least 15 characters long and contain upper and lower case letters. It may, but is not required to, contain other characters as well. The maximum length of your password/passphrase is 30 characters. Please view our suggestions on how to pick strong passwords/phrases. A quality passphrase is a string of words with each separated by a space. Passphrases expire every two (2) years.

Where can I find my Brandeis alumni?

Find your old friends and classmates in the Brandeis Alumni Directory, a secure, password-protected resource that contains the names, and contact information of all alumni who earned a degree at Brandeis. Log in with your UNet ID.
