How do I access the University's remote working services?

How does the student Remote Desktop (UOB) work?

You can access many resources using the Student Remote Desktop (UoB access only). The Student Remote Desktop works in exactly the same way as if you were using a computer on campus. Can I access eduroam at UWE Bristol?

Provides wifi access to UWE Bristol students and visitors from participating institutions. UWE Bristol students can also access other universities' eduroam service. Please note: ensure eduroam is working correctly on your devices at UWE Bristol before visiting other institutions. You will need to set up your security profile to enable this.

What is intranet in SharePoint?

The staff intranet in SharePoint provides access to internal information, access to Office 365 tools and news. In addition, we have MyBristol which is a single point of access for information, services and resources and is an accessible way to sign in to a variety of services at the same time. By signing in to both services you are presented with relevant content containing information specific to you.

What is the Blue Peta?

If you have significant storage requirements for your research data, the University has a dedicated, central Research Data Storage Facility , Blue Peta. Details and costs are available on the Advanced Computing Research Centre website.

Who manages staff printing?

Staff printing is managed by our Print Services team. Information on purchasing devices as well as guides on using print devices, including Print Release, can be found at: bristol.ac.uk/print-services/purchasing-departmental-print-devices/.

What is OneDrive for Business?

OneDrive for Business for document storage and sharing.

What is UOB access?

Can you change your email address in Bristol?

Your email address uses your user ID, eg ab12345@bristol.ac.uk and you cannot change this. You can create a user- friendly email address for others to contact you on while you are a student.

Do study spaces have printers?

Many study spaces have printers or photocopiers you can use.

Is home internet slower to upload?

Remember that home and mobile broadband connections are usually slower to upload than download.

How to upload files to H drive?

Browse and find your file (using the Browse button) and click the Open button to add it to the list of files to upload: Once you have selected all the files you want to upload, click the Upload button at the bottom of the screen. This then uploads the files: Your files will now be placed in your H: Drive.

What is XA in UWE?

XA (eXternal Access) for accessing your files saved on the UWE Bristol network (such as the H: Drive).

What is UWE Bristol XA?

The UWE Bristol XA service provides access to your personal H: Drive and shared S: Drive.

How to remove UWE Bristol?

If you use the Microsoft Authenticator app, you will need to remove your UWE Bristol account from the app before moving to your new device: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app. In the menu options, select Edit accounts. Remove your UWE Bristol account.

What is Office 365?

Microsoft Office 365 provides a suite of tools including Office applications. Office 365 includes OneDrive for Business, a secure cloud storage service, Yammer, Planner and SharePoint. You can also access Microsoft services through a range of mobile applications on personal devices.

Does the University of Bristol use Outlook?

University of Bristol staff use Microsoft Outlook for email and calendar. Staff can access Outlook services online at outlook.com/bristol.ac.uk or bristol.ac.uk/email. Outlook desktop is also available on all UoB managed computers.

Is Outlook 365 available on UOB?

Office 365. Information about Outlook email and calendar, as well as other Office 365 services, is available on the Office 365 Support Site (UoB only). This includes information about setting up University email on your mobile device. Microsoft Office 365 provides a suite of tools including Office applications.

What is a triodos bank?

Publishing and Writing. The Arkbound Foundation is a charity that aims to improve access to literature and increase diversity in the world of Publishing. They have created two practical publishing tasks for Bristol WORKS schools that can be accessed here.

What is women in property?

Women in Property is an organisation set up to support women in the property and construction industries and inspire change . Women in Property Bristol created excellent explainer films for our remote film content page and now WORKS has created some retrieval tasks to go along with them. There are three tasks available to download. Once you have watched the films and completed the tasks, send your answers into works@bristol.gov.uk. Alun Griffiths is a leading civil engineer and construction contractor based in Bristol. As well as hosting lots of information and advice about their work in the community, their site also plays host to lots of educational resources. Check out their Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 resources for students.

What is Bristol WORKS Pledge Partner?

Bristol WORKS Pledge Partner, Avon Wildlife Trust, is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. The Wildlife Trusts have lots of practical resources that can be used at home whilst social distancing. Why not check out The Wildlife Trusts ‘how to’ films that will help support the development of new skills and creativity whilst learning about wildlife. What is Future Quest?

Future Quest, an outreach programme working with schools to support young people’s progression into Higher Education, has outlined three taster activities that can be accessed from home. Supporting students to better understand their future options, and feel confident to access them, the activities focus on public speaking, decision making and student life. From May 4th they will be releasing weekly activities via their newsletter and social media. You can sign up to the newsletter by scrolling down their home page. NCS also have lots of useful hints and links on their ‘Staying Connected’ section. It includes projects to get involved in and lots of social action you can take up from home!

What is on site apprenticeship?

Bristol City Council’s ‘On Site’ is a unique apprenticeship training provider and their website is full of useful resources to help you learn about various trades and how to apply for apprenticeships. Why not check out their useful film about ‘How to Apply for a Construction Apprenticeship’. If you’re looking into house building as a career then why not try these useful resources. Or, if you’re already on the path to starting an apprenticeship, then why not practise your CSCS Card test online for free. Alternatively, United Living, also offer lots of information and advice about apprenticeships, work experience and they have a parents and teachers zone, too.

What is unlock cyber?

Unlock Cyber is a joint initiative between employers and universities in the West of England to open up Cyber to young people. To support remote learning, they have announced plans for two regional events. The Unlock Cyber Challenge taking place on Wed 24th June is for groups of year 8 students.
