The BronxCare Health System now provides more than one million outpatient and 141,000 ER visits. It is also certified as a Level Three Patient Centered Medical Home (the highest level) by the National Center for Quality Assurance. We adopt and practice the following principles as fundamental to our program.

myBronxCare, our user-friendly online service, offers patients the convenience of always having access to their health information. The information provided is safe, secure, and confidential. It can only be seen by the patient and the physician or their healthcare provider.

What is CIR in medical?

Residents are part of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) union. Representatives are chosen from the department and serve as delegates for the residents. CIR has been very successful in negotiating a competitive compensation package, including medical, dental and vision benefits, as well as life insurance.

Historically, New York has welcomed new arrivals from all over the globe. In medicine, as in other fields, New York is a city of rich diversity. Approximately 9,000 international medical school graduates practice or teach in New York, and nearly 2,000 are currently in residency at New York City hospitals.

Union Benefits

Union Benefits through the CIR (Committee of Interns and Residents) include Health (with full family coverage), Dental, Optical, Life, Disability, and Legal services at no additional cost to the resident.

Vacation policy and medical, family, personal and educational leaves

Each resident is entitled to 20 days of vacation per year. Requests must be submitted to the future chief resident prior to June for the upcoming academic year. The schedule is made based on seniority. No two residents may be on vacation the same week.

Book and Technology Allowance

Residents are entitled to receive up to $660 annually for educational material, which can be used to acquire books, a smartphone, or a tablet device. In addition, the BCSC series is provided to incoming residents by the department.

Educational Resources

Library services are available within the department at the BronxCare Health System Center Library 24/7 and through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai available with remote access. https://eresources.library.mssm.edu/login/

Conferences

A conference allowance of $1,075 per year is available to each senior resident. In addition, if a resident of any year is presenting at a conference, the department will reimburse expenses up to a maximum of $1,400.00.
