Can I access the New York public library remotely?

Many of The New York Public Library's research collections and services are available remotely. From personalized email consultations with research librarians to remote access to our online research databases, the Library offers a variety of ways to engage with our collections wherever you are.

Where is the business library located?

The Business Library is located on the first floor of the Bayes Business School on Bunhill Row. The library primarily supports postgraduate students while undergraduate collections are based at the Northampton Square Library.

What business databases are available from the library?

The following specialized business databases are now available remotely: The Library has acquired thousands of scholarly e-books from hundreds of publishers, including Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Harvard University Press, Sage and many others.

Services

Self-service machines for borrowing and returning books and the Library Help Desk are located near the entrance. Staff will be able to answer your questions and assist you accessing the printed and online resources and support you in managing your library account.

Study spaces

The business database terminals in the Financial Resources Zone must be booked in advance. There are quiet study areas throughout the library, Silent Study Zone for individual silent study and a 36 seat Computer Room.

Photocopying, printing and scanning

Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) for photocopying, printing and scanning are located near the library entrance.

Can you download data from remote access?

You can download data from most of the remote access databases, but it must be within the Copyright Law.

Do you have to cite a database source?

If you quote from a database - for a business plan - you must cite the source.

Is Cobra a good database?

This membership is ideal anyone thinking of starting a business as the Cobra database is a great starting point for your research.

Markets and trading

Provides profit and loss, balance sheet, ratios and trends, stock prices, credit score and rating information (where available) for major public and private British companies. Lists of companies can be created using any combination of 300 search items.

This resource contains information on Mergers & Acquisitions, IPOs, private equity and venture capital deals. It also contains information on rumours as well as announced and completed deals.

Banking and finance

S&P Capital IQ Pro provides detailed and standardised financial data on financial institutions in the US, Europe and MEA. Previously called S&P Global Market Intelligence and SNL Financial.

Apply for a Library Card Online
