Our Remote Access facility allows you to connect into college and access all of your files from home. Using Remote Access is like sitting at a PC in college, with access to your P: Drive, Shared Resources, and software. You can use Remote Access from any PC, Mac, iPad, or tablet, although for ease of use a screen of 10"+ is recommended, along with a keyboard and mouse/touchpad.

How many connections can Google Classroom support?
This is because the maximum number of connections the service can support is 120 . While this isn't an issue during normal usage, during this closure we need to ensure staff have priority access so teachers can continue to make work available to you via Go4Schools, Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams, and so our administrative and office staff are able to access our finance system and other critical services from home.
Is remote access always available?
It will sometimes be necessary to take down Remote Access for maintenance and upgrades and it will not be always available. IT Services will always endeavour to keep downtime to a minimum.
Can you use the internet on remote access?
Whilst using the Internet on Remote Access you will be subject to the same filtering and code of conduct as when in school. Depending on the popularity of Remote Access it may be necessary to limit the amount of users that can access the system at any one time, to ensure that the user experience remains adequate.

If you are using a Windows-based computer, click on the Start button & locate the Remote Desktop Connection software (usually located in the Windows Accessories folder)
What is a VPN at a university?
The University offers a virtual private network ( VPN) service to all staff. A VPN allows a desktop or laptop located off campus to securely access the University's network and online resources. Many services offered by both the University and College may only be available while on campus. The VPN allows you to connect to these resources from a remote location. The VPN also creates a secure connection by which you can access resources while using a device not on campus. All staff are automatically provisioned a VPN account.

Can you access LionMail from any location?
Many tools that you use for your everyday work can be accessed from any location. The Google Suite of tools, including LionMail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets, are accessible by logging into lionmail.columbia.edu. College-specific resources, such as shared network storage, can also be accessed remotely. Tools for accessing this, and other data, are outlined below.
