How do I access the Columbia network from a remote location?

Remote access to network files and administrative applications on the Columbia network via VPN and Citrix. Also known as VPN , Citrix , RDP, or XenApp. CUIT provides two methods to connect to the Columbia network from a remote location: VPN and Citrix . Please note: The Citrix software is also used by other groups at Columbia such as SIPA.

What is CUIT remote access?

CUIT provides technologies that enable all faculty and staff to accomplish their work-related tasks while working remotely at any time. Prior to using remote access tools, make sure your desktop or laptop is free of computer viruses, worms, bots, etc. Refer to the Columbia University Remote Access Policy in the Administrative Policy Library for specific requirements and guidelines.

With a Citrix connection, faculty and staff can access applications and shared data files hosted on the Columbia Central Server.

Can I access my Columbia email remotely?

Everyone at Columbia can securely access his or her Columbia email remotely using LionMail with a web browser. UNI login is required.

Does rolm work on Columbia?

Remote Access Using a Web Browser

You can securely download the contents of your network drives by using any web browser, or upload files from a remote computer to the Law School network file system. To use this service, log in using your Law School username and password.

Remote Access Using FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) can be used to transfer a copy of a file from a remote computer (for example, the Columbia Law School Network) to a local computer (for example, your home PC). Similarly, you may use FTP to transfer a copy of a file from your home computer to the Law School network.

How to forward calls to a non-Columbia line?

Dial the extension to which you want your calls forwarded. If you want to forward to a non-Columbia line, dial 9+area code + phone number .

What drives are available on CCIT?

The O, P, R and H drives are available via CCIT’s Remote Desktop Services. Please see the Remote Desktop Services section, above, for instructions.

What is Zoom for CUIT?

Zoom is a video conferencing platform that can be used to meet with Columbia and non-Columbia affiliates. All Columbia UNIs are issued a free 40-minute Zoom account that can be used with minimal setup. Zoom Pro accounts can be created by request for individual UNI accounts or for shared departmental mailing lists. Zoom Pro accounts cost $25 per year and will require chartstrings for activation. A Zoom Pro account allows for unlimited meeting times with up to 300 attendees. Zoom offers webinar and “Large Room” accounts for meetings that require up to 500 (or 1,000) attendees. These accounts may cost between $400 and $1400 per year, depending on your specific need. More information regarding Zoom accounts can be found on CUIT’s website. Please contact the CCIT Service Desk at ccit@columbia.edu for assistance obtaining a paid Zoom account.

What is EAP in Humana?

Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a network of free services, provided by Humana, to help you and your household members cope with issues experienced in everyday life and as well as in times of uncertainty.

Is Columbia suspended?

All Columbia business travel, both international and domestic, is suspended.

Can you access LionMail from any location?

Many tools that you use for your everyday work can be accessed from any location. The Google Suite of tools, including LionMail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets, are accessible by logging into lionmail.columbia.edu. College-specific resources, such as shared network storage, can also be accessed remotely. Tools for accessing this, and other data, are outlined below.

What can you do on Crown Land?

Any person may use Crown land for transitory activities such as hiking, rock climbing, boating, skiing, swimming, filming/photography, bird watching, horse-back riding, caving, and snowmobiling, as well as motorcycling, biking and use of all terrain vehicles and other similar activities.

How long can you camp on Crown Land?

Any person may camp on Crown land for up to 14 consecutive calendar days.

Can I use Citrix on Columbia University?

Most of Columbia’s systems can be accessed directly in your web browser without using VPN (virtual private network) or Citrix, freeing up licenses for other users. Columbia U Secure wi-fi eliminates the need to use VPN while on campus to access Columbia administrative resources. However, a few restricted administrative applications require the CUIT VPN. VPN is also is used to connect to shared files on the University network from a remote location. If you are a CUIT customer that pays for access to the Columbia Central Server, you can use CUIT Citrix to access certain applications and resources on the server. Before utilizing either remote access service, review the Columbia University Remote Access Policy for specific requirements and guidelines.

Can I use VPN to access off-campus Library resources?

No. The VPN service only provides access to on-campus resources. Off-campus Library resources can be requested via the Libraries website using your UNI and password.

Can I use Citrix to access my network files?

Yes, however CUIT strongly suggests that you use VPN to access your shared files. Citrix is not preferred because it is not designed or recommended for connecting to the University servers.

Can CUIT provide VPN access that allows me to get around China’s firewall?

No. Under recommendation from CUIT Security and the Office of General Counsel, CUIT does not provide the VPN access that would allow CU affiliates to visit Western sites while in China.
