How do I remotely log into my computer using CSE labs?

CSE Labs allows you to remotely log into a variety of machines using the secure shell or SSH for short. For this you will need an SSH tool. Windows: Open cmd.exe and check that the ssh command is present by typing ssh Enter. Most recent Windows installs have it.

How do I get a CSE classroom account?

Current CSE faculty can submit an account request via email to csehelp@umn.edu. The following computer classrooms and labs are available to all current College of Science and Engineering students. Civil Engineering 230 features 43 Windows computers.

Where can I print in CSE labs?

Individuals with a CSE Labs account are able to print at any CSE computer lab or classroom. Learn more about printing in CSE Labs. What is expected of everyone who uses a computer lab?

Everyone who uses a computer lab is expected to follow the existing Active Directory sign-in and sign-out procedures for that lab.

How to run lab01 code?

On logging into the machine you will work on, you will need to make sure that you get the codepack linked at the top associated with the lab and unzip it which will create a directory called lab01-code with C files for you to analyze. To compile and run these, open a terminal and navigate to the directory lab01-code. This is usually done by issuing a series of "change directory" or cd commands as in the following brief demo.

Does CSE have Linux?

CSE Labs provides several physical lab locations many of which have Linux computers with a Unix environment. Visiting a lab physically and working on their computers is a plausible way to get work done in courses that require such an environment. Do remote mounts require VPN?

Does UMN require 2 factor authentication?

Most UMN resources now require 2-factor authentication , including remote access to CSE Labs machines. You will need to install the Duo App on a mobile device to receive the verification prompts while logging into machines. After entering a username / password in a login sequence, usually one will get a final prompt to use Duo to verify the login. Keep track of your phone for this.

Eligibility

  1. IT computer labs are available to University of Minnesota students, staff, and faculty.
  2. For students, current registration is required for fall and spring semester access.
  3. Summer registration or registration in the contiguous spring or fall semester is required for summer access.
  4. A UCard and proof of appropriate registration may be required for verification of eligibility.
