How does GFI Software provide remote assistance?

Once a ticket has been opened, a GFI support tech may request to use this tool for advanced troubleshooting purposes. To provide remote assistance, GFI Software requires access to your local machine. GFI Software will also record and store each remote assistance support session, solely to provide support services to you.

What port does GFI Languard connect to?

Port - Specify the port number used by GFI LanGuard Central Management Server to connect to the Proxy Server. The default is 8080. Authentication - if authentication is required, enable this option and provide the credentials of the target server.

GFI LanGuard is not able to scan remote machines thoroughly. In such cases, GFI LanGuard has partial access to remote registry or SMB (Server Message Block). Errors similar to the following may be displayed in the Scanner Activity Window:

Root Cause

This issue occurs when the remote computer has a local account with the same username and password as the Domain Administrator being used by GFI LanGuard to execute the scan.

Resolution

Log on to the GFI LanGuard host machine using an alternate Domain Administrator with no corresponding local account on the remote computer.
