Ubuntu is a Debian based OS so the procedure is the same. If you can access your server via SSH on Port 22 then the configuration is correct. If you are trying to reach the server from another subnet and are unable to connect then I agree with Kenny8416 that it is a firewall issue (not the UFW on the Debian box) that is blocking the traffic.
