To disconnect and end the session, simply close the Remote Desktop window on your Mac. You can edit your settings at any time by hovering your mouse over the thumbnail in Saved Desktop and clicking the Pen icon.

We’ve previously discussed how to use Remote Desktop to access other Windows computers in the same house. It’s not so much different doing it from OS X, but let’s go through it for the sake of thoroughness.

Connecting to a Mac from a Windows PC is a little different. You’re not going to be able to use Remote Desktop, but that’s okay because there’s a free client called RealVNC viewer that does the trick nicely.

1. Remote Desktop Software (Easiest)

If you need regular access to a Mac we strongly recommend using remote desktop software which makes it much easier and allows you to do a lot more.

2. Remote Login in macOS

Unfortunately, Apple removed Back to My Mac from macOS in Mojave onwards which used to make it easy to connect two Macs or devices to each other.

3. Screen Sharing in macOS

If you simply need to connect to another Mac to share your screen then you can use the free Screen Sharing utility in macOS.

4. iCloud

Rather than connect to another computer, if you save all of your files in iCloud, you can access them easily from any device including a Windows PC.

5. Remote Management in macOS

If you want full access and control of another Mac remotely, then activating Remote Management is your best option.
