Why use Laserfiche?

Laserfiche makes it much easier to prevent business process interruptions. With the appropriate setup, employees should still be able to access all of their documents from the Laserfiche repository while away from the office. They should also be able to fill out new forms and perform various tasks in the Laserfiche Forms inbox.

Can you use a VPN for Laserfiche?

We recommend to set up a virtual public network (VPN). This will allow employees to connect into the company’s network from home, so that they can access all of their applications, including Laserfiche, as they would if they were still at work. The alternative, if you cannot set up VPN, is to use the web client and Forms from the DMZ.

Can you log into Laserfiche without a private network?

If your organization is on Laserfiche Cloud, you should be able to log in to Laserfiche as usual without having to sign in to a virtual private network first.

Can you take a picture with Laserfiche?

You can take photos of documents using the Laserfiche app on your smartphone or tablet and upload them to the repository that way. This is great for individual documents. Simply select Document Mode when you take the picture and the app will automatically recognize the document’s edges so that when the photo is taken, there will be no extra space around the document. Can you use Laserfiche to share documents?

If your company has the Laserfiche public portal, then it can use it to share documents with the public and other employees outside of the organization.

Planning Access Rights

Before you begin setting access rights, it is a good idea to make a plan for them. Determine what you want users and groups to be able to do in your repository, and where. It is also a good idea to design your repository so that documents that should have similar security settings are grouped together.

Setting Access Rights on a Document or Folder

Select the document or folder on which you want to configure access rights. (It is strongly recommended that you set rights on folders rather than documents wherever possible.)

Viewing Effective Rights

The Effective Rights tab of the Access Rights dialog box provides a simple interface for determining what actions a particular user can perform on the selected entry. It takes into account all rights, both explicitly set and inherited.

Each operation on a document or folder has a set of required entry access rights. If the user attempting the action does not have the necessary rights, the user is denied permission to perform the operation.

In addition to assigning entry access rights directly on a document or folder, you can also allow documents and folders to inherit the entry access rights assigned to a folder.

2. Access Your System with Web Client

Laserfiche is available through the web client, in addition to the thick client. You can set up a VPN and access all systems remotely.

3. Create an Electronic Form for Approvals

If you are already using the automation tools of Laserfiche, you can quickly create processes to automate approvals that are still paper-based. For example, create an electronic form to facilitate invoice approvals. This process would be a short-term fix if you were doing this manually.

4. Read Only Access to Records

Do you have users with access to Laserfiche that do not take advantage of it? Now is the time to recommend they utilize it for read-only access. If you need additional users, contact your account manager.
