Leiden University students, staff and (dual) PhDs, as well as KITLV and LUMC staff, have remote access to the libraries' databases, e-books and e-journals. When outside the university premises, always sign in to the catalogue with your ULCN account. Search for the title or subject of your interest and click View Online, if available.

Who can access the Leiden University Libraries?

Leiden University students, staff and (dual) PhDs and KITLV staff can access the libraries' databases, e-books and e-journals from anywhere in the world. Leiden University alumni have remote access to a limited number of these resources.

Is the law library open to students?

The Law Library is closed year-round to students registered at educational institutions other than Leiden University, and fee card holders who do not verifiably depend on the library collections for their research. There are no options for library group viewings or teacher and students tours.

Can I study in the law library without a computer?

Outside of exam periods study places without computer can be used freely by all library patrons who have access to the Law Library. Computer workplaces are available for use by Leiden University students only, and need to be booked in advance. Several computers - marked with a white sticker - will be available for use by other library patrons.

Do I need a library account to access the library resources?

No library account is needed to access these resources. Due to licensing restrictions, visitors not affiliated with Leiden University can access licensed online resources from within the university network only. Purchasing a yearly fee card does not offer any additional remote access options.

To be able to access the library, all visitors need to bring their valid and activated LU-Card.

Alternative tools

Ideally, the remote workplace should only be used for logging on to Self Service. For many functionalities, there are better alternatives.
