Hello, we are deploying Lync as a replacement to our PBX and Lync will be providing all our communications needs in office and for remote users. My Lync Implementation consultant is telling me that Lync does not run well over VPN, enryption overhead latency and lag issues, i have read this as well.

That is an interesting challenge. You could set manual Lync configuration to connect to EDGE only, but that will not work for internal Hosts files & DNS will also not work from both locations
