How do I get access to the UC San Diego MATLAB network?

The UC San Diego MATLAB network license server and Parallel server access are available to support lab computer and cluster installation. Computers must be on the network and must be registered in the campus “ucsd.edu” domain to participate. UCSD users can request Matlab ISO and network license manager access.

Does UCSD support all MATLAB toolboxes?

University of California San Diego has a MATLAB Campus-Wide Licensing agreement and it supports all MATLAB toolboxes. Please visit UCSD MATLAB Portal to see the full list of products. Students may use these products for educational and instructional purposes.

What is the purpose of the Matlab license?

The license allows individuals to install the products on university-owned equipment, as well as personally-owned computers. UCSD students, faculty, and staff can access MATLAB products on UCSD MATLAB Portal. SSO login is required.

How do I access MATLAB online?

MATLAB Online-MATLAB ® Online™ provides access to MATLAB from any standard web browser wherever you have internet access – just sign in. No download or installation is required.

About MATLAB and Simulink

MATLAB, the language of technical computing, is a programming environment for algorithm development, data analysis, visualization, and numeric computation. Simulink is a graphical environment for simulation and Model-Based Design of multidomain dynamic and embedded systems.

Products Available on Campus

MATLAB, Simulink, and add-on products are available through our TAH campus-wide license. Application areas include:

Getting Started: Learn About Capabilities and Using the Software

Use the TAH Resource Kit to find tutorials, webinars, teaching materials, books, and more to help you use MATLAB and Simulink. When you access these resources from the resource kit, you bypass registration forms.

Restrictions and Requirements

All remote access protocols must be configured to use multi-factor authentication. Please check the documentation of your remote access product for details.

Apple Remote Desktop (ADP)

ADP is a technology developed by Apple, based on VNC, that provides you with access to Apple computers from another computer. It presents you with the desktop of the remote computer allowing you to work as if you were physically sitting at the remote computer.

Remote Access Protocol (RDP)

RDP is a technology that provides you with access to a Windows computer from another computer. It presents you with the desktop of the remote computer allowing you to work as though you were physically sitting at the remote computer.

Secure Shell or Secure Socket Shell (SSH)

SSH, also known as Secure Shell or Secure Socket Shell, is a network protocol that gives users, particularly system administrators, a secure way to access a computer over an unsecured network.

Telnet

Telnet is an application protocol used on the Internet or local area network to provide a bidirectional, interactive text-oriented communication facility using a virtual terminal connection.

Virtual Network Computing (VNC)

VNC is a graphical desktop-sharing system that uses the Remote Frame Buffer protocol (RFB) to remotely control another computer.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPNs are a way to ensure that your network traffic is encrypted between your computer and any service you access. While running a VPN to access a University service you are protecting your data from being intercepted and read.

How do I add another directory to my MATLABPATH?

If you are using Linux or Macintosh, open a terminal and type the following command to determine your shell.

Can you change MATLABPATH line in bashrc?

If you already have a MATLABPATH line in your .bashrc file, you can simply make changes to that line.

MATLAB Tutoring

MATLAB tutors are available to provide help with MATLAB during Week 2-9; their scheduled hours are available on Canvas->Modules->MATLAB with their Zoom meeting IDs. You may go to different tutors' tutoring hours via Zoom.

The MATLAB Quiz

During the last week of the quarter, you will have to take a MATLAB quiz.

Feedback

If you have any suggestions or comments about the lab assignments, we'd love to hear from you. Also, if you encounter any mistakes or broken links, let us know. Send an email to the Senior MATLAB TA.
