What port does RDP use?
Discovered a workaround. When you establish a RDP session via the Remote Desktop connection option, it'll use a random port on localhost (e.g. 127.0.0.1:10564 ). If you telnet to that port, it works (obviously).
What app is used for managing RDP sessions?
In Devolutions RDM, which is the app I'm using for managing RDP sessions (among other types of sessions, such as Citrix, etc), there is a setting that you can enable:
Is RDP session established?
After this point , it's pretty much self-explanatory, RDP session is established and you're good to go.
Can you change a JNLP file to Remote Desktop?
It doesn't care about any of the arguments or parameters in the file, it will just force open with mstsc.exe and it will work just fine.
Does N-Central close SSH?
As Stormblade73 has pointed out, N-Central monitors the launched application, and when it is closed, N-Central then closes the SSH tunnel also. This gave me some clue as to what to look for. When you run a Custom session (doesn't matter if you use mstsc.exe or some 3rd party RDP client), it doesn't seem like port 22 gets established and stay connected. This is probably why sometimes I can connect and see the RDP session, then I get disconnected immediately (as port 22 / SSH gets dropped).
