Full Answer

What is the openPDC manager used for?

The openPDC Manager is a utility intended to allow remote access and simplify adapter configurations in the database. The PMU Connection Tester can be used to view a live stream of data in one of the supported protocols in order to test that the stream is being received.

Is it possible to update a web page in openPDC?

Updating a web page in openPDC requires physical file access to the “wwwroot” folder in the openPDC. Generally, GPA does not consider either of these vulnerabilities as exploitable within an unmodified openPDC deployment.

What are the vulnerabilities of openPDC?

The vulnerabilities were (1) CVE-2020-11023, related to the version of the jQuery JavaScript library embedded with openPDC, and (2) CVE-2019-10768, related to the version of the Angular JavaScript library embedded with openPDC. The jQuery JavaScript library is heavily used by the openPDC web interface, including the login page.

What phasor protocols are supported by the openPDC?

The openPDC implements a number of standard phasor protocols which can be used to receive data from devices. The supported protocols are IEEE C37.118 (v1.0 and Draft 6), IEEE 1344, BPA PDCstream, FNET, SEL Fast Message, and Macrodyne.

When will OpenPDC 2.9.42 be released?

This is version 2.9.42 of the openPDC, released on May 15, 2021

What is the default access ID for 192.168.1.12:4712/96?

In the example above, both 192.168.1.10:4712 and 192.168.2.10:4712 use the normally configured access ID of 95 (now considered the default access ID), but 192.168.1.12:4712/96 and 192.168.2.12:4712/96 specify an access ID of 96.

What is adapterexplorer tool?

AdapterExplorer Tool - analyzes the configuration of a Time-Series Library system validating inputs, outputs and current values

Software Description

A phasor data concentrator is designed to receive streaming synchrophasor data from phasor measurement units (PMUs) installed on power transmission lines and align this data by GPS time-tag (i.e., it “concentrates” the data based on time). The output of a PDC is a time-synchronized dataset that is forwarded on one or more software applications.

Data Description

The openPDC implements a number of standard phasor protocols which can be used to receive data from devices. The supported protocols include IEEE C37.118, IEC 61850-90-5, IEEE 1344, BPA PDCstream, F-NET, SEL Fast Message, and Macrodyne among others.

License Terms

The openPDC has was originally developed by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 2004 where it was called the SuperPDC. The name was changed to “openPDC” by TVA as the code was posted publicly as open source in 2009.

Hosting Platform Requirements

Minimum OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 – newer versions are recommended, latest tested version Windows Server 2019. openPDC requires a 64-bit OS.

Service Account

The “NT SERVICE\openPDC” is a managed local account, also known as a “virtual account”. The openPDC virtual account has only the rights assigned to it by the installer, at a minimum, read-write access to the openPDC install folder.

Optional Data Integration Points

1. The relational database is only used to hold configuration and metadata, it is not used to archive received streaming time-series data. As a result, database size is directly related to relatively small. 2. Time-series Framework Secure Service Remoting

What is openpdc manager?

The openPDC Manager application can be used to simplify configuration of the openPDC. Currently the openPDC Manager is written as a WPF application and not available to run on Mono. However, an instance of the openPDC Manager running on a Windows machine can be used to remotely configure and monitor a Linux or Apple OS X based openPDC service.

What is the.NET application for OpenPDC?

The openPDC is a .NET application and as such it requires a Common Language Runtime (CLR) engine to execute. For use in POSIX compatible environments, the openPDC uses Mono as its runtime engine. Mono is a cross platform implementation of the .NET framework that is widely available on various hardware and software architectures. For the openPDC version 2.1, Mono version 3.12 is required2.

What are the two types of users in OpenPDC?

The openPDC supports two kinds of users: (1) system authenticated users and, (2) database authenticated users. As their name suggests, system authenticated users will be authenticated by the local operating system according to configured authentication policies, e.g., the PAM configuration. This can be local accounts or domain accounts, if enabled. Database authenticated users will be authenticated by matching a user name and a hash of the password as defined in the openPDC configuration database. Generally, system authenticated users are the ideal choice since the user credentials and account information is maintained by the operating system.

What is the default database in OpenPDC?

The default openPDC installation configuration comes with a preconfigured SQLite database. SQLite is convenient because it is self-contained and requires no additional installation components. However, several other database types are natively supported by the openPDC, including: SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle.

Does OpenHistorian work on POSIX?

The openHistorian 1.0 built into the openPDC also works on POSIX platforms. From a fresh install of the openPDC17, download an updated openPDC.exe.config and openPDC.db configuration database that have the historian enabled by default:

Does OpenPDC need SQLite?

Since the openPDC will need access to the default SQLite database to make configuration changes, a file share on the machine running the openPDC will need to be established that is accessible from the Windows machine running the openPDC Manager.

Can OpenPDC be run in the background?

The openPDC can be started as a terminal application or registered as a daemon that will run in the background and startup automatically.
