How do I connect to my campus Coe pc from off-campus?

There are currently two methods we recommend to connect to your campus COE PC from a remote (off-campus) location. The preferred method is to use the Engineering “Gateway”. It is the most secure method and should give the best performance, but it requires a mobile device that is pre-registered with DUO.

Popular Engineering Software and Availability

The University and the College of Engineering Technology Services (ETS) offers a variety of software applications and multiple methods for accessing (downloading, virtual access, or remote login) available to students, faculty, researchers, and staff. Virtual Access

The College of Engineering implemented Citrix to provide remote access to virtual desktops and applications without requiring a VPN connection. The “COE” desktop is the primary image available to all enrolled students with a majority of software ( click here to see a list) installed needed to complete engineering curriculum.

Staying Connected

Right now, many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are making accommodations for customers having trouble paying their bill. OneNet has a list of local ISPs and how they are assisting Oklahomans. If you experience difficulties, call your ISP. If you are near another higher education institution, they may have ‘eduroam’ Wi-Fi.

Maintain Security

Be cautious of emails received while working from home. Confirm that messages from OSU members do NOT contain the "External Email" notification. The "External Email" notification will never appear on emails from OSU members. Also be wary of clicking any links contained in unsolicited emails.

Services

A virtual private network (VPN) is a technology that protects network traffic. When using OSU's VPN your traffic is sent through campus even when at home or another location. When away from campus using OSU's VPN is required for remote desktop and network drives.

RCC4 Policy for Intended Use

The student computing laboratories of The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (herein referred to as ER4), are intended to be used by students enrolled in, or taking classes from, The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Policy on Account Creation & Deletion

All students enrolled in Electrical & Computer Engineering courses are eligible for an account on the ER4 computers. Accounts are created automatically, at the start of each quarter, based on class rosters. Late registration may lead to late account creation.

Keycard Access Policy

It is the policy of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering that students who have current accounts in the Learning Technology Fee (LTF) labs will be granted keycard access to both the LTF computing laboratories and to the buildings which house those labs.

Usage Policies & Guidelines

All usage policies that apply to the Unix labs also apply to the PC labs. Thus no eating or drinking anything other than water in secured containers, is allowed in the labs, and the machines are only to be used for ECE classwork, etc.

RCC4 Printing Policy

Printing in the student labs (ER4) are on a cost recovery basis. T he department does not collect any money beyond actual cost. There is no revenue generated through this program.

ER4 Policy: Remote and Background Processes

This policy is in place to ensure the fair distribution of computing resources among the many persons using them.

ER4 Policy: Screenlocks

At any time that a workstation is left untended, regardless of duration, that workstation must have its screen locked.

How It Works

The key to delivering the speed and reliability needed for remote microscopy is a high-quality connection, with low latency and minimal jitter and packet loss. If the latency is consistently low enough, then the user can sit in a remote site anywhere in the world and feel a suitable response to operator commands.

Having identified an appropriate network solution, the next step in developing a remote microscopy capability was to prove the concept through a practical demonstration with a remote partner willing to work through the development process.
