What is Peabody’s policy on personal computing?

Peabody students are encouraged to own and use personal computing devices, as these are increasingly invaluable tools for academic and artistic endeavors. All Peabody students who use the computing resources of the school or conduct computing activities at the school must adhere to the JHU’s Academic Computing Policies.

What resources does the Peabody Institute provide?

The Peabody Institute provides computers and peripherals in the Arthur Friedheim Library as well as a robust wireless network campus-wide, including residence hall rooms. IT@Peabody maintains these resources, often in collaboration with other administrative departments.

What type of Internet access is provided in the residence hall?

The Residence Hall is provided with a fiber-optic network backbone propagated across a 1000Base-T Ethernet network (the “Network”) on each floor occupied by Peabody Institute students as well as WiFi access throughout the building.

Requesting Articles and Physical Items

While physical collections are unavailable, we are still accepting Interlibrary Loan requests for online articles and physical collections. Requests for items in the physical collections will be filled with digital versions where available. Some items may not be available until Friedheim Library reopens.

What is IT@Peabody?

IT@Peabody oversees the school’s administrative and academic computing operations, and is responsible for all hardware and software acquisitions and implementation, networking, email communication, databases, and web services. Comprehensive support is available to all staff and administrative faculty. Faculty who do not have offices at the school can take advantage of the PC workstation available in the faculty lounge. All staff and faculty who use the computing resources of the school or conduct computing activities at the school must adhere to the school’s Acceptable Use Policies and Procedures.

What is the network in Peabody?

The Residence Hall is provided with a fiber-optic network backbone propagated across a 1000Base-T Ethernet network (the “Network”) on each floor occupied by Peabody Institute students as well as WiFi access throughout the building. IT@Peabody maintains and monitors the network and oversees, either itself or with the IT@JH team’s assistance, the configuration and maintenance of the Network’s hardware equipment, wiring, and Internet connectivity.

Students can consult the latest information about spyware, adware, viruses, hoaxes, and other threats to computers and privacy by consulting websites concerned with these issues, which include, among many others, symantec.com, mcafee.com, f-secure.com, sophos.com, pcworld.com, and us-cert.gov.

What is the fastest and most reliable connection to the internet?

For the fastest and most reliable connections to the internet, use the wired connection. Residents should observe best practices when using the Network. Individuals whose computing practices impair the Network may have their access terminated and, as a result, lose internet connectivity.

Does JHED have wireless?

Wireless networking is available throughout the Library. Off campus or on, your JHED ID card gives you access to various online resources; please inquire at the Library circulation desk to learn more.

Is it illegal to connect to a school network?

NOTE: Connecting any networking device including wireless or wired routers to the school s network is strictly forbidden.

Getting Started with Remote Teaching at Peabody

In case of a campus closure, suspension of in-person instruction, or online-designated coursework, JHU and Peabody provide various resources for remote teaching. These same resources provide value any time a faculty member and their students cannot be co-located, or would like to collaborate asynchronously.

How to access blackboard?

How do I access Blackboard? Access Blackboard either via https://my.jhu.edu in the “Education” tab, or by visiting https://blackboard.jhu.edu directly. Once on the site, log in using JHU Enterprise Authentication and your JHED@jh.edu ID. If you do not have a JHED and have been sent a link for guest access, log in using the “Open Non-JHED Login” option.

Can you use IT@Peabody?

Utilization of these tools is determined be each of your teachers. If you need help learning any of the tools, IT@Peabody can help.

Can students with JHED access Blackboard?

Students with JHED IDs can access all the tools on this page with their JHED. If students do not have a JHED, please contact your faculty to inquire about access. Faculty and students are automatically enrolled in Blackboard courses via a SIS integration. All of these tools are also accessibility-compliant for students with a variety of learning needs. Faculty and students are 100% supported in their use of these tools by IT@Peabody team.

Access helps you consolidate information across locations and departments, reduce redundancies, and improve your ability to find what you need by converting your paper documents to digital files.

What is retention based on?

Retain based on the appropriate record series retention period as determined by the content and function of the data.

What is electronic record?

Electronic records created, used, or filed for the purposes of agency business are public record as defined by M.G.L. c. 4, § 7 (26). No additional paper or other hardcopy or eye-readable copy need be kept except where specifically required by statute, Supervisor of Public Records Bulletin, or agency legal counsel.
