I am trying to connect to a CentOS 7.7 system with only a MATE desktop from a Windows 10 system using the Remote Desktop application. I have successfully installed xrdp on the CentOS system. I provide the login credentials in the xrdp dialog and attempt to log in.

Well looking at the log I'd say your window manager just exits immediately.

I got this working. What I needed was the file ~/.Xclients to contain the single line "mate-session".
