Clarification on the Jan 27 update to protect from Deadbolt
I wanted to offer some clarification on what happened with the update on January 27 that many have talked about. This update patched the known Deadbolt attack. But we are still recommending you don't expose your NAS to the internet.
How did qnap force the update?!
I as a preamble, I do not have any problem with automatic update. I enable those all the time - and thus was not impacted by the latest action from qnap.
If you're not accessing your QNAP remotely, or have services that need internet access, remove the gateway address from the QNAP so it can't send traffic to the internet
Yes it makes it a LAN only device but if you don't need to access it remotely, it adds another layer of security that would mean the device is invisible to anyone outside your LAN.

Qnap issues after Qnap the company forced a change yesterday
Anyone else having issues with their Qnap NAS in the last 24 hours. Mine went down yesterday but now 4 others that I manage or my friends own have also gone down. I opened a case and support said they pushed out a change yesterday to force auto update even though I had it disabled.

I have recently setup QSYNC to backup the my documents folder to my QNAP NAS. The initial synchronisation seems to have work well but I want to be able to verify that the data is on the NAS.

Ah figured it out. All I had to do was click on the Settings cog icon in the top right hand corner and select show hidden folders on NAS. Now I can see that indeed my files are on the NAS and that the backup job to the cloud was of the same file size as the my documents folder. Hope this helps others.
