The Plex way of doing this. Otherwise, you could ssh/vnc to the machine, or use a vpn to access the remote machine or the entire remote network.

I can SSH and perform updates or VNC into it and play around like remote desktop. the only thing I cant do is upload files remotely.

I'll do some peeking around as now that I'm wording it that way I would guess that the answer is out there in some fashion. I want to avoid letting her use my RPi remotely as it gets a decent amount of use in my own house.
