How much data does VPN and remote desktop use?
Over a normal public connection, the data usage would be exactly 2GB. However, over a VPN that encrypts the data for you, the data usage increases. Since 2GB is actually 2,048 MB of data, it means you're technically transferring more like 2,348 MB in total. Now, this multiplies for every single file you access.
How do I check my RDP speed?

How fast is RDP?
Typical high bandwidth of RDP is 130 Kbps (Kilo bits per second) Typical low bandwith of RDP such as scrolling etc is about 5kbps.
Does TeamViewer use excess data?
TeamViewer for PC typically uses about 25 MB - 50 MB per hour on each PC. A speed of roughly 50 kbps should be good enough for general use. Hope this helps.
Is TeamViewer better than AnyDesk?
AnyDesk has 1097 reviews and a rating of 4.6 / 5 stars vs TeamViewer which has 10589 reviews and a rating of 4.63 / 5 stars. Compare the similarities and differences between software options with real user reviews focused on features, ease of use, customer service, and value for money.
Why is my TeamViewer connection so slow?
Connection Speed TeamViewer uses your Internet connection to transmit data from the remote computer. A fast download speed is recommended, or you will experience lag. The remote computer is uploading at the same time. Therefore, your computer can only receive information as fast as the other computer can send it.

Does streaming video consume more data than office work?
Generally speaking, playing a video at the Streamer computer will consume much more data than ordinary office work, given the same resolution and frame rate. For estimation purpose, we can assume office work over remote session uses about 1/3 data traffic of constant video streaming.
What Is Bandwidth Usage?
Before we can discuss how to monitor bandwidth, it’s important to understand why bandwidth monitoring is important. Because bandwidth is a measure of the rate at which data is transferred over the internet on your network, it is measured at a rate of data units per second—usually megabits per second, or Mbps.
What Causes Bandwidth Consumption?
The first step in bandwidth monitoring is to understand where low bandwidth originates. Certain devices and web applications are more likely than others to hog bandwidth and create network performance issues for your business.
How to Check and Monitor Bandwidth Usage
Before you can monitor bandwidth usage, you need to understand how to check bandwidth usage. Checking bandwidth usage regularly, and assessing every potential source of bandwidth utilization, allows you to identify bandwidth issues.
Automated Solutions for Bandwidth Monitoring (Free Trials)
There are plenty of bandwidth monitoring tools, and SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), which is part of the SolarWinds bandwidth analyzer pack (BAP) is a great example of an easy-to-use, automated solution for IT admins looking to monitor and manage network bandwidth.
Question
I've been tasked with enabling 200-250 remote users to use DA. Most of the users will have access to good/reasonable internet connections, but some may may be limited to 3G only. I have a number of questions around client bandwidth utilization (I'm aware of the Technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh183981.aspx )
All replies
Bandwidth calculation is a complex question. I've deployed DirectAccess in mutiple infrastructures and businesses and bandwidth usage has never be the same (Yes catia consume a lot of bandwidth and cannot be used with 3G connection). I would say that it consume more than traditional VPN/SSL not for technical resaon but user experience.
What is remote access accounting?
Remote Access accounting is based on the concept of sessions. In contrast to a connection, a session is uniquely identified by a combination of remote client IP address and user name. For example, if a machine tunnel is formed from the remote client, named Client1, a session will be created and stored in the accounting database. When a user named User1 connects from that client after some time passes (but the machine tunnel is still active), the session is recorded as a separate session. The distinction of sessions is to retain the distinction between machine tunnel and user tunnel.
