How can I work remotely at the University of Bath?

The Digital, Data and Technology Group provides guidance on remote working, including information on how connect to the University via a VPN and using UniApps to access University software. Once you are connected to the VPN you can map the X:Drive using Windows 10 or map drives using Mac (OS X) (University of Bath logins required).

How do I set up the University of Bath VPN?

Log In University of Bath Open menu Log In Install VPN Configuration Your device should now download a configuration file to set up the VPN service automatically. When prompted, run the completed download and follow the installation instructions.

How do I find University of Bath Full text available?

Type “university of bath” into the search box and click the tick box for University of Bath – Full text available and then Save. When searching use the Full text available link to connect to the article from the University of Bath library collection. You will be prompted to log in with your BUCS username and password.

How to access University of Bath online books?

If you access our online books, journals and databases by visiting the Library Catalogue or Library webpages you will be recognised as a member of the University of Bath and asked to log in using your University username and password. Correctly entering these details will give you access to the resource.

How many e-journals does the University of Bath have?

The Library subscribes to over 500,000 e-books and 26,000 e-journals in support of research and teaching at the University. When you use a computer connected to the campus network the book and journal providers will recognise you as a University of Bath user and allow you to access the resource. This works through an identifier on each networked computer, known as an IP address. All of the Library's electronic books, journals and databases may be accessed from anywhere, anytime, but the resource provider needs to know that you are a University of Bath user so that it will prompt you for your University of Bath username and password.

Can you use UniDesk on campus?

Please note that whilst UniDesk, UniApps and VPN will connect you to the campus network and hence provide access to library resources, they should only be used when absolutely necessary due to limited bandwidth. For access solely to library resources please use the library catalogue and webpages.

Can you access your references off campus?

If off-campus, you can access it using a UniApps connection. If you use the network ed copy, you will need to transfer your stored references to another tool (e.g. EndNote Online) just before completing your course or contract. Otherwise, you will lose access to those references once you have left the University.

Does University of Bath have Endnote?

The University of Bath has a site licence to EndNote which allows you to download EndNoteX9 to your own device: this will enable you to import references (from EndNote) into Word without having to be online. It will also enable you to store your references in perpetuity.

What is files.bath?

the files.bath service allows you to access your University storage via a web browser without the need for a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Instructions on how to use files.bath are available from the Digital, Data and Technology Group.

What is managed research storage?

Managed research storage is provided by the Digital, Data and Technology Group for academic staff and postgraduate students. 100GB is available at no charge for every permanent member of academic staff. This can be expanded to up to 1TB if required. An additional 1TB is available for second and subsequent funded projects. Please note that the policy on how this storage is allocated is reviewed periodically, so always check the latest guidance (PDF) on the allocation and deallocation of storage to see if you are eligible.

Can you access encrypted folders in files.bath?

Encrypted folders cannot be accessed through files.bath or UniApps. Our guidance on working with collaborators has information on how you can securely share your data with collaborators using files.bath. If you are working with sensitive data you should ensure that they are secured whilst you are working remotely.

How to use Eduroam?

To use, simply visit a participating institution and type your CatID@uni.edu and passphrase to login to the local “eduroam” service. Go to the Eduroam Locator Map for a list of participating institutions.

How many countries does Eduroam work in?

Eduroam is available in thousands of locations in more than 100 countries. The service allows you to use your UNI credentials to login to the wireless network at any participating organization’s location.

Can faculty work remotely?

There are multiple ways faculty and staff can work remotely and still have access to the necessary IT services to fulfill work requirements . Use Remote Desktop (RDP) to connect to your on-campus Windows computer in order to have access to your network drives, software, and other UNI-resources.

Can you teach remotely at Uni?
