How do I access the University's remote access service?
You can access the service from your University laptop or from your own device running Windows, MacOS or Linux. However, please be aware that some applications may not be available for Linux users. How does the remote access service work?
The Remote Access Service uses a virtual private network (VPN) to allow you to connect securely to the campus network over the internet. The VPN will allow you to access things such as network resources, and internal University websites that you otherwise wouldn't be able to use when off-campus.

How do I register for the remote access service?
To register, just click on the ‘ Make a Request ’ menu option on the left hand side, select ‘ Register for the Remote Access Service ’ and then follow the on-screen instructions. For additional security, we are making use of Two Factor Authentication.
How to open a VNC session on PBIC?
Enter your VNC password and click on connect, you should now have an open VNC session on PBIC. This will appear as a window with the ‘geometry’ sized window as determined above.
How to use username in terminal?
Enter the following at the command prompt in the terminal window, with username being your University ADF user name e.g. username@pbic.bham.ac.uk (use this format without ‘.’ in the username, rather than say d.s.fraser. This is called the ‘short name’.)
