Can I move protected Cambridge college information to a remote workstation?

For example, copying or moving files that contain protected Cambridge College information from a system on the College Local Area Network (LAN) to a remote workstation is prohibited. All policy decisions not explicitly outlined in the policy will be based on this philosophy. This policy does not identify approved users or their authorization.

4.3.6 Organizations or individuals who wish to implement non­standard Remote Access solutions to the Connecticut College production network must obtain prior approval from Information Security Office

What is the purpose of the Connecticut College network policy?

These standards are designed to minimize the potential security exposure to Connecticut College from damages which may result from unauthorized use of Connecticut College resources. Potential damages include the loss of sensitive or college confidential data, intellectual property, damage to public image, and damage to critical Connecticut College internal systems.

What is the responsibility of Connecticut College employees, students, and College Affiliates?

It is the responsibility of Connecticut College employees, students, and College Affiliates with remote access privileges to Connecticut College's campus network to ensure that their remote connection is given the same information security consideration as the user's on­site connection to Connecticut College.

Can you remote teach in person?

Remote access to an in-person Teachers College course is restricted to those students who cannot attend for COVID-related reasons. Temporary access to remote instruction can be granted in the following cases:

Can you take Honorlock exams remotely?

If using the Honorlock system to administer an exam the option to take the exam remotely can be offered to students but the classroom must also be available to any student who needs a quiet space to perform the exam.

Do instructors have to report remote access requests?

Instructors are not expected to determine the veracity of remote access requests. Only explain the guidelines and report the number of requests.

Do students have to get permission from their instructor for remote access prior to class?

Students must receive permission from their instructor for remote access prior to class.

Can you remote teach at Teachers College?

Students must receive permission from their instructor for remote access prior to class. Instructors are not expected to verify students’ requests, however, students with positive test results are obligated to notify the College in accordance with New York City and contact tracing requirements. Lack of vaccination without an approved medical or religious exemption is not grounds for remote instruction. An approved COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement to enroll in classes at Teachers College.

What is Logmein for college?

LogMeIn is an authenticated “Cloud” based remote access service. The service is maintained and administered by the IT department and is available in two versions. One version provides full access to a user’s desktop and allows the user the same control over services that they would have while seated at their work desk. There is no cost to the College for this version and therefore we will encourage users who need to use a remote access solution to adopt this version. The second version is similar to the free version with the additional capability of transferring files bi-directionally between the remote computer and the user’s work desktop. This expanded version is only available on an as needed basis. Both versions require supervisor approval.

Who grants access to a business unit?

Access privileges are granted by the Data Custodians, Principal Administrator, or Managers of a Business unit or application owners responsible for the information being accessed.

Does Cambridge College have a VPN?

In the past, the College relied on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect remote users directly to the College network. With overhead and support for this type of technology solution running in the multiple thousands per year the College has sought out alternative solutions for this basic service.

Documents

How can I edit and view my work documents from off-site? We recommend using SharePoint for departmental document sharing and collaboration . OneDrive is best for individual to individual document sharing.

Email

How can I access my VCCCD email account from off-site? You can access your work email from the MyVCCCD portal from any location and any device.

Personal Devices and Computers

Can I use my personal computer to work from home? What are the limitations? Using the MyVCCCD portal, you can log into many services from home such as VCCCD Email, Banner Self Service, Office 365, and Microsoft Teams. Currently you will not be able to use some administrative applications like Banner Admin, OnBase and Argos reporting.

Administrative Applications

There are two options available for access to administrative applications beyond what is available in the basic my.vcccd portal: 1) Secure Portal and 2) Secure Desktop.

What is VPN and Remote Desktop Connection?

Kalamazoo College’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) is available by request, and can be used to access resources that are normally inaccessible off-campus. If you are unable to access an internal resource (like those listed below) while away from the College, obtaining VPN access may help you.
