How do I connect to the BU VPN?

To connect to the BU VPN you'll need to install the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. For Medical Campus resource access, please see the BUMC VPN instructions. Duo Two-Factor Authentication is required of all clients when logging into the VPN

How do I log in to Bu without being on campus?

For example, when you are not on campus you could be prompted to provide your BU login name and Kerberos password through BU’s Web Login, or required to use VPN software; both possibilities are described below. What is Web Login? Web Login is BU’s standard method of authenticating you to BU web sites.

How can I access my files remotely?

If you store files in a folder on a server that is part of BU’s Active Directory, you can access these files remotely. You will generally need to do this over a VPN connection. Access to departmental server-based resources like shared drives, remote printing and shared FileMaker databases usually requires use of a VPN connection.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a convenient way to access network-restricted resources on the campus network that would otherwise be unavailable from off campus. In some countries, access to the University’s VPN service may be limited or restricted.

Where is Cisco AnyConnect located?

Launch the Cisco AnyConnect Client, which is located in Start > All Programs > Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

Benefits

Assurance that information transmitted between your computer and the BU campus network is secured through encryption. Ability to use network-restricted resources on the campus network that would otherwise be unavailable from off campus, no matter where you are.

Key Features

Gain access to restricted resources when you are away from BU, including departmental servers (such as printers and shared drives), MyPrint, FileMaker databases, and Active Directory resources such as SharePoint.

What to Expect

This service normally will be available 24 by 7 except for standard change windows, as described in IS&T’s standard policies, procedures, and schedules for making changes. In some countries, access to the University’s VPN service may be limited or restricted.

Requirements

A BU login name and Kerberos password that has been authorized for VPN access (as determined through Accounts & Access ).

Central Printing Via Myprint

You can use the MyPrint program to print remotely to printers at Mugar Library, or other locations on campus such as the residence halls. In most print center locations, printouts will be filed under your BU login name and kept for five days. VPNsoftware is required when you are using MyPrint from off campus.
