How do I get a VPN for Carleton?

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) client software is required for access to Carleton University resources that are restricted to on-campus use. It provides a secure encrypted channel from your home to the campus and allows access to many campus resources. Windows 10 Go to: cuvpn.carleton.ca and login with your MC1 Username and Password.

How do I connect to Carleton University’s network?

If the dropdown menu is empty, type cuvpn.carleton.ca and click “Connect”. Enter your MC1 Username and Password and click “OK” to login. You will be asked to Accept the terms/policy’s of Carleton University, to finish the connection you will have to click the “Accept” button.

What are the computer labs like at Carleton?

The computer labs are booked for tutorials, in-lab-exams and special events. All Carleton students can use Carleton University printers via the CU on the GO printing service. (1) MAE labs have limited capacity posted at the entrances.

Does MAE have a remote lab?

Due to COVID-19, MAE has made computer labs accessible remotely via VPN and Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Physical access to the labs is limited and capacities are posted at the entrances.

Can MAE students access the labs?

Please note that only MAE students have access to these facilities. Individuals that gain access to the space and are not eligible to be in the space can be reported to the Department of University Safety. Many of the labs are monitored both with video surveillance and using swipe-card access.

Does MAE use MC1?

MAE students have access to Carleton’s Virtual Desktop System. These are accessed using your MC1 account. In addition to the General Student Lab Image (for all Carleton students) MAE has 2 special images with Engineering Software which uses 3D graphics. Access to these images is based on the course requirements.

How to show options in RDP?

After launching the RDP client click " Show Options ". The program should look similar to the one below

What happens if you don't check the Use my RD credentials box?

If you did not check the Use my RD credentials.. box than you will be prompted for another set of credentials. Use the ones you would normally use to log onto the computer.

Using the Library from Off-Campus

The library subscribes to many resources that are available electronically, you must log in to see them from off campus.

Requesting Articles and Book Chapters

Carleton students, faculty, and staff off campus may request journal articles and book chapters through their Interlibrary Loan account and we will attempt to deliver them electronically. Those permitted to come to campus may request physical items through their Interlibrary Loan account.
