What is Remote control of a computer using Microsoft Teams?

Remote access control of a computer is the ability to monitor and control the access to a computer which is in a different location by a user. Microsoft Teams meeting has an option to remotely access and control another computer.

Does and don'ts of remote access

It is always a good idea to having one person share their screen to keep everyone on topic. In doing so, Microsoft Teams gives the presenter options to either share their entire screen, an application or open a Microsoft whiteboard or only share a window. The options come in handy depending on the occasion.

How to give access to teams

You can use remote access or give control feature in Microsoft Teams and give the user you are meeting the ability to manipulate your screen by clicking on things, editing, or typing. It is an effective way to make your Microsoft Teams live meetings more lively and interactive if done safely.

What is RDS?

Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is the platform of choice for building virtualization solutions for every end customer need. RDS lets you deliver individual virtualized applications, provide secure mobile and remote desktop access, and provide end users the ability to run their applications and desktops from the cloud.

Teams on RDS with chat and collaboration

If your organization wants to only use chat and collaboration features in Teams, you can set user-level policies to turn off calling and meeting functionality in Teams.

Set policies to turn off calling and meeting functionality

You can set policies by using the Microsoft Teams admin center or PowerShell. It might take some time (a few hours) for the policy changes to propagate. If you don't see changes for a given account immediately, try again in a few hours.

Sharing your Screen in a meeting

To share your screen in a meeting, select Share content in your meeting controls, then choose to present the following:

Give and take control of shared content

If you want another meeting participant to change a file, help you present, or demonstrate something, you can give control to that person. You will both be in control of the sharing, and you can take back control anytime.

Share content on a Mac

If you’re using a Mac, you’ll need to grant permission to Teams to record your computer’s screen before you can share.

IT admin guidance

Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

Hello, Just recently the remote control feature in teams is not working for us, when I had the end user allow access everything seems ok my mouse never shows up on their screen, I have tried from multiple PC's with the same results. I have also updated my teams client and reinstalled but still no luck. Any help?

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

I have a very similar issue, though when I try to remote control, I also lose the control bar at the bottom of the window, the other side needs to end the call, or I need to close teams.

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

Same issue here with both my clients' machines, and our own. Remote control is initiated, on the host side is says that the client is in control, but the client cannot move the hosts' mouse or click on anything. On the client end, it appears though you are in control of the host as well.

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

Same issue here. Seems to be random too. Tested with 2 users. I couldn’t control the first user but he could control mine. The second user couldn’t control mine but I could control hers. Doesn’t makes any sense.

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

The same issue started happening to a lot of my colleagues in the recent 5 or 6 days.

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

I created a case yesterday about the same issue and I will let you know about its resolution.

Re: Microsoft Teams Remote control not working

So I figured out a workaround that seems to get the mouse cursor working again, once the end user shares the screen and they give you control click on chat on the left hand side of teams which should minimize the remote control window.
