Does UC Davis health provide remote access VPNs?

UC Davis Health provides remote access VPNs for employees and non-employees, who are authorized to connect to the UC Davis Health network from remote locations. Remote Access VPNs should solely be used for conducting UC Davis Health businesses. Administrative rights are required to install an application or program.

How do I install the AnyConnect VPN on a UC Davis computer?

For UC Davis Health issued computers, submit a service request to obtain the administrative right. You can download and install the AnyConnect VPN from inside or outside the UC Davis Health network, but to connect you must be outside the UC Davis Health network or use the Guest Wireless.

How secure is my UC Davis Health laptop?

If you have a UC Davis Health laptop, it's already secured and ready for remote work using AnyConnect VPN. The need for UC Davis Health issued computers is being evaluated by leadership.

How does duo security work at UC Davis Health?

To improve our security posture, UC Davis Health has incorporated Duo Security as a multi-factor authentication solution to access EPCS, Office 365, VPN, HS Apps, and other applications from off-site locations.

UC Davis Health provides remote access VPN for employees and non-employees, who are authorized to connect to the UC Davis Health network from remote locations. VPN should solely be used for conducting UC Davis Health business. This page outlines the minimum requirements and some recommendations for connecting a computer to VPN.

Duo authentication

NOTE: Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required to authenticate and connect to VPN sessions. Duo is a secure mobile authentication app for quick, push notification-based approval to verify your user's identity with a smartphone or other device.

UCD Health VPN users will use Cisco's AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to establish remote access connection. This client and the instructions are available here:

Properly Configured Firewalls

The PC at the user site must have firewalls shut off or allow the proper traffic to flow through the firewall for VPN to work properly. It is the responsibility of the user to configure their personal firewall for proper VPN operation. Many home routers come with built-in firewalls that can block VPN connections.
