Overview

To improve security of the systems OIT manages, we require multi-factor authentication when OIT system administrators and those who have other privileged access are connecting from off-campus to critical systems (including office desktops).

What is Duo?

Duo is the same system used to protect your Direct Deposit, W-2, and W-4 information in MyCUInfo. Multi-factor remote access, however, will have the addition of a mobile app that quickly and easily confirms your identity for secure login. Check out how it works with this video from Duo (link is external) .

How to enroll and use Duo

Download the Duo mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble logging in using Duo, especially if you have recently replaced your mobile device, you can log into the Duo Two Factor Enrollment website to view your settings, re-register the app, or add a new device.

How to get access

Start with the library website search. OneSearch resources will automatically ask you to login with your IdentiKey if you're off-campus.

Who can get access

All current CU Boulder students, faculty members, and employees with an active CU IdentiKey can access a majority of Libraries-subscribed databases and online resources from an off-campus location. Please see our database terms of use for legal limitations on using these resources.

Alumni and public access to electronic resources

Off-campus access to our databases and online resources is restricted to current students, staff and faculty. Some resources do allow walk-in access for public patrons. Please contact our Ask A Librarian service for more information.

Need help?

If you don’t find what you need, please contact your subject specialist, submit an interlibrary loan request, or submit a purchase suggestion.

Overview

CU Boulder's VPN service provides a secure connection to the campus network from any location, as long as the device has an internet connection. The VPN can be used to access campus resources (e.g. library resources, file servers) or to securely browse the Internet.

How to download, set up, and use VPN

Download and Installation Instructions for Cisco AnyConnect

Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is OIT's VPN option. Reference the following information to get started with Cisco's AnyConnect client on your desktop or mobile phone.

Custom VPN Service

If your department, group or service requires its own protected IP range, then you may request a custom VPN. A custom VPN will be established on the Cisco AnyConnect solution. Learn more by visiting the Custom VPN Service page.

Advanced Users

Users with advanced needs (such as server admins) can connect to a limited service that OIT provides. This service will only route your network traffic to the campus when you access campus resources such as file shares and servers. More detailed information can be found on the VPN Advanced Users and Server Administrators page.

Cost

CU Boulder's VPN is provided as a common-good service (no direct cost) to all faculty, staff and students.

Who can get it

CU Boulder Faculty, Staff and Student affiliations automatically receive a VPN entitlement. Some faculty or staff-like roles with HR appointment roles also have access; if you need access but don’t fall into one of these categories, please contact the IT Service Center.
