Remote Computer Labs

The service allows students to connect to a remote desktop in a computer lab to access 30+ software titles from their own device. Students can interact with the desktop as if the data and programs were stored on their home computer.

Configure Device

To use the remote applications or remote computer labs, you will need to download the VMWare Horizon Client on your device. Then follow the step-by-step installation instructions.

Your experience using software in a remote environment will be different than visiting a computer lab in person. You should consider a few things if you use a remote computer lab.

How to stay in touch with classmates?

Stay in touch with classmates using Google Meet and Chat. You can instant message people using Google Chat or host virtual meetings or record a presentation with Google Meet, which has live captioning and document sharing features.

How to use VPN on campus?

Use VPN Only if Necessary 1 Specialized access to servers and databases located on campus 2 Remote accessing your desktop. This requires advanced configuration, including a reserved IP address, disabling power saving features, and enabling RDP on the desktop. If you are working remotely for an extended period of time, consider taking your desktop home with you or syncing your desktop files with Google Drive. VPN will not be needed if you take the desktop home with you. Please follow equipment loan instructions.

Housing

Students who live on campus may remain in student housing for the remainder of the Spring semester while UNLV continues online instruction.

The Dining Commons will continue operations with some slight modifications. Self-service stations will be closed; stations will be full service.

Student Recreation and Wellness

The facility will remain open and regular services will be offered with minor modifications.

University Operations

UNLV’s buildings and campuses will remain open and we will continue to provide services to our students who live in residence halls.

Instruction

Please look for further messaging from your instructors regarding the mode of delivery for your courses.

Events

Out of an abundance of caution, UNLV strongly advises cancellation or postponement of events held on our campuses beginning Sunday, March 15, through Sunday, April 12. The university will re-evaluate events scheduled after April 12 in the coming weeks to determine if additional cancellations are necessary.

Off-Campus Access to Library Materials

Most databases, journals, and articles require authentication before they can be accessed off-campus.

Requirements for off-campus access

Due to licensing restrictions required by publishers who produce electronic resources, off-campus access to the databases is limited to authorized users. Only currently enrolled students or currently employed staff or faculty of UNLV can access licensed databases from off-campus. Alumni are not eligible for this privilege.
