What is the access to Faculty of Engineering Computing Service?
This service allows Engineering faculty, staff, and students to access UVic Faculty of Engineering computing resources from outside the Faculty of Engineering. With the return to campus, lab computers that were being used to provide this service are once again being used for in person labs and thus being removed from this service.
How do I use UVic VPN with AnyConnect?
Note: If you want to use file sharing or connect to a local printer while connected to VPN, follow these additional steps: Right click the AnyConnect icon in the task-bar and select Open AnyConnect. Click the gears icon to the right of the Connect to field. Once connected to UVic VPN, you can to map network drives.
What operating systems are supported by UVic VPN?
Faculty, staff, and students with a valid NetLink ID can download and run the UVic VPN client on their computers. Linux Red Hat 8.2, 7.6 & Ubuntu 20.04 (LTS), 18.04 (LTS), and 16.04 (LTS) (only 64-bit is supported, all versions)
Can instructors request access to this service from off-campus?
This service is available from off-campus and from computers which cannot support these applications. Instructors may request access to this service for themselves, their instructional team, and for students.

What is remote lab?
The remote computer lab service provides instructors with a remote desktop environment with a wide selection of software for teaching and learning. These include specialized research, analysis and productivity applications. This service is available from off-campus and from computers which cannot support these applications.
What is engineering remote lab?
The Engineering Remote Lab service is a shared service that is designed to accomodate the needs of as many students as possible. While there are hundreds of computers available through this service, there are thousands of students that may need to access this service. As such this service has connection timeouts to disconnect inactive users to free up unused computers.
How do I disconnect from the Engineering Remote Lab service?
On a Windows lab image, select 'Start -> Shut Down or Sign Out -> Sign Out'.
What drive is your engineering home directory?
Your Engineering home directory through the 'M:' drive .
Install the VPN client: Windows
Supported for: Windows 8, 8.1 and current Microsoft-supported Windows 10 x86 (32-bit) and X64 (64-bit), also Microsoft-supported versions of Windows 10 for ARM64-based PCs
Using the VPN

You may need to type in your UVU ID and Password
If you still can’t connect, type ad\ before you type your UVU ID in. For example, if your UVU ID were 12345678, you would type ad\12345678.
At this point, your remote session should begin
If a prompt appears that says “The computer is already in session,” then it means someone else is already using the computer.
